“Hammer Time’ hits Memphis as Lundy takes another O on ESPN!

April 17, 2010 Leave a comment

Hank-Lundy-vs-Tyrese-2.jpgSouth Philly’s Hammerin’ Hank (18-0-1, 10ko’s) strikes again – this time putting the first blemish on the record of Georgia’s Tyrese Hendrix (18-1, 7ko’s) by way of a one sided 10 round unanimous decision live on ESPN to win the NABO lightweight title.

The fight took place in Memphis TN and Lundy had his man singing the blues from the start. Lundy came out at a frantic pace from a southpaw stance – a position that gave fellow southpaw Hendrix fits. Lundy floored his opponent three times in the fight – two of which came in the first round. The first knockdown of the evening was one of the sports rarities – a double knockdown courtesy of two perfectly times hooks upstairs.

The pace slowed a bit in the middle rounds with Lundy turning orthodox – setting the pace with jabs, body work and hard overhand rights. There were times where Hendrix stepped to the middle of the ring and pressed the action which led to some very good two-way exchanges.

While Hendrix was getting the worst of these exchanges – he does deserve his credit as he fought very hard and overcame trying circumstances to end the fight on his feet.

Again – Hank Lundy puts on a show when the lights were brightest. Again he takes on a defeated a fellow undefeated prospect in his division. Now he adds he NABO title to his arsenal which will get his foot in the door shall he defend it successfully. Keep an eye out – because Lundy just made a strong case for being considered the top prospect coming out of Philadelphia…

Expect ESPN TV ratings to be through the roof on April 16th because on this night South Philly’s Hammerin’ Hank (17-0-1, 10ko’s) returns to Friday Night Fights for a showdown against yet another undefeated fighter. This time the opponent in Tyrese Hendrix (18-0, 7ko’s) of Gainesville, GA and this time we won’t get short changed as it is scheduled for 10 rounds. The fight take place in Memphis TN.

Once again Lundy shows he is more than willing to battle anyone. Time after time he has taken on an undefeated fighter / fellow prospect and has come out on top. Sooner or later he will get a crack at a big name in the division. When that happens – no one will be able to discredit it because he is doing it the old school way – by knocking off his peers!

Hank Lundy continues to rise!

November 10, 2009 Leave a comment

Over the weekend Hammerin’ Hank Lundy stays undefeated by blowing out grizzled vet Aldo Valtierra in the 1st round. Good win against a solid vet, now it is time to get Lundy back on TV.

Plenty of prospects in the 135 – 140 lb range to choose from. No footage of this win available at the moment, until then, enjoy this little montage I found on the South Philly Hammer on YouTube….

Lundy, Hunter & Smith win over the weekend!

Talk about it and see what they are saying on the forum http://phillykeith.com/fightforum/index.php?topic=944.0

On September 24, 2009 Bionic Bull Promotions came to South Philly with a 6 fight card at the Yesha Hall on the corner of 23rd & Snyder in South Philly. In the main event Hammerin’ Hank Lundy stays undefeated with a 6th round KO over fizzled veteran Justo Sanchez. As expected, ringside observers say that the bout was a one sided show for Lundy who was faster and overall just better than his 35 year old foe.

In the co-feature Dhafir Smith scored a 2nd round knockdown en route to a split decision win over Maryland’s Demetrius Davis in an 8 round Super Middleweight bout. Many said it was a good fight that could have gone either way. Final scores were 77 – 74 x twice for Smith which was enough to over ride the one card 77 – 74 that was in favor of Davis.

Eric “Outlaw” Hunter returned after 13 months off and seemed to have little problems with Wilshaun Boxley of Coon Rapids. MN, sweeping the scorecards 60 – 54 across the board.

Cruiserweight Dan Grafton won his pro debut with a 4th round KO over Patrick Johnson of Indiana.

In the two ladies bouts Belinda Laracuente won a UD over Lakeyshia Williams and Rachel Clark won a majority decision over Natalie Brown.

Hank Lundy to fight Saturday in South Philly!

South Philly’s Hammerin’ Hank Lundy (14-0-1, 8ko’s) will be back in action this weekend headlining the Bionic Bull Promotions card at the Yesha Center on 23rd & Snyder. After a list of names and offers, the opponent will likely be Justo Sanchez (17-23-1, 0ko’s) of Utah. Word is that no one locally wants to fight him. Hank wants that big fight soon and has called out the Peterson’s, Tim Bradley and anyone else with a name in his division. Keep an eye out for one of the most exciting guys in the city as he will likely put on a clinic in this match.

The co-feature is said to be Dhafir Smith vs. Demetrius Davis of Baltimore in a n8 round super middleweight bout. Dhafir has faced travelled the world to face some of the best in the business. This time he gets a break as a hometown favorite. Davis is a hard nosed fighter so this one could turn out to be the best two way fight of the night.

Featherweight Eric “Outlaw” Hunter (10-1, 4ko’s) of Philly will face Wilshaun Boxley (5-1, 3ko’s) of Minnesota. Hunter, a top amateur a few years back is considered one of the most well rounded prospects in the area. Inactivity has been a problem to date as he had only fought twice in the past 26 months. Rust never seems to be a problem though. Boxley is very well regarded in the cold part of the country. He is said to be a crafty little guy with good speed. Let’s see if that is enough to stop the outlaw

Also scheduled for action are Pedro Martinez, Lakeysha Williams and Dan Grafton who will make his pro debut

The Dungeon Warriors / Bionic Bull Promotions card written about earlier this week featuring Hank Lundy and Derek Ennis has been canceled for 8/14/09. The official reason was “faulty bond paperwork”. The weigh-in did go as planned the day before. Either way, I am told that a make up date will be announced. Check the forum for more info

April 2009 Philly Top 10 Pound for Pound Lists!

It has been a while since I put together a Philly top 10 list and in that time it is still pretty obvious who is #1 in the town, that would be B-Hop. But in the past year there has been a lot of activity amongst the rank and file who made moves to get to the top. Some succeeded, some failed, some have rebounded and others are on their way.

This time around I give you two lists. First is a national Philly top 10 pound for pound which gives my ranking to those from this area who are either champions, within title contention or TV fighters. These guys are all over the world and are known industry names.

The next list is themed “21 & Under” ranking the Philly pros with 21 pro fights or less. These fights can take place anywhere in the world. This list tracks the activity of the young pros who seem to be on their way to making big moves in the boxing circuit within the next few years. These rankings are based on pro performance and potential, not solely on amateur career.

This was done as a replacement for the local top 10 list that ranked boxers competing within city limits. There was just not enough activity to compile one. Take a look and feel free to send any feedback to me via email.
