On Friday, March 12, 2010 – Mark “Oaktree” Brown (15-3, 7ko’s) let one slip away as he over cautiously contested Tony Grano (17-1, 13ko’s) at the Foxwoods casino in Connecticut. Oaktree refused to throw punches for the better of nine rounds and Grano was no help in the initiation process, staying far away from striking distance. Once Brown decided to let it fly in the 10th and final round – he almost knocked Grano clean out of the ring with a filthy overhand right. Video of Brown landing the “super punch” is below.

The late knockdown wasn’t enough to win a contest filled with mauling and wrestling. It went to the score cards and read in favor of the hometown favorite Grano by tallies of 98-91 and 97 – 92 x 2.

On March 13, 2010 -  Mark “Oaktree” Brown (15-2, 7ko’s) grants a rematch to heavyweight hopeful Tony Grano (16-1, 13ko’s) at the Foxwoods casino in Connecticut. Oaktree went on the road in September of 2008 after a successful run in Philly and pinned the one and only loss on the tail of Grano. In a tremendous show of will, Oaktree overcome two early knockdowns to win by KO late in the final round to take the WBF title.

That day rates as the highlight of the Salem crowd pleasers career. Unfortunately follow up success has been hard to find. Grano to his credit was able to bounce back with a stunning KO of his own – rallying from an utter whooping to stop Travis Kaufmann on Shobox late last year. Word is that this is a rematch Grano has been dying to get. If Oaktree can get another win, he positions himself for a nice fight anywhere he chooses in the world.
At 41 years old there isn’t much time left. Tip your cap to the Salem, NJ resident who is going for broke and trying to make lightening strike twice.

This fight can be viewed on www.gofightlive.tv probably for around $5 – I will confirm time and date soon.

Here are a few words from Oaktree to the Philly and New Jersey fans who supported him throughout his career.

Mark Oaktree Brown wins WBF Heavyweight title

On September 27th, 2009 – Mark “Oaktree” Brown went into enemy territory and got the job done scoring a dramatic 8th round TKO over Connecticut’s heavily favored hometown hero Tony Grano to become the new WBF Heavyweight champion. Oaktree overcame two early knockdowns and fought back, delivering a smelling salts type of KO on the previously undefeated Grano. Immediately after his win, Oaktree and his team called in to me to share their excitement on this victory, proclaiming themselves as champions. In a post fight phone interview, Oaktree was ecstatic, almost in disbelief that he was a champ and now is is looking to have fun with it and go on a run. He also looks to be able to finally be able to make some money out of this business. Congrats to Oaktree Brown, the grimy, underground training fighter who made his name the hard way through this rough and tumble business. He now is a spot where he can be the guy who separates the prospects from suspects. Keep getting them and make that money Oak!
