On November 13th, 2010 North Philly’s Mike Jones (22-0, 18ko’s) will get the long awaited opportunity to showcase his skills to millions of boxing fans around the globe. The assignment is to open the televised portion of the highly anticipated Manny Pacquiao vs. Antonio Margarito pay-per-view which will be broadcast live from Cowboy Stadium in Arlington, Texas. His challenger is Jesus Soto Karass (24-4-3, 16ko’s) of Los Mochis, Mexico – a streaky yet dangerous foe who holds wins over a list of notable fringe contenders in the 147 lb division. The 27 year old Karass is coming off a no-contest in his last bout which was preceded by a sluggish loss to Alfonso Gomez which was stopped in the 5th round due to cuts. Prior to that he did not lose in 15 consecutive bouts.

Jones on the other hand has skyrocketed in popularity almost over night. Relatively anonymous and unable to land any sort of meaningful fight in 2009, he has since become the toast of the welterweight division and a name many boxing scribes throw out there as an opponent of intrigue to go against some of the shinier names in the weight class. MJ is rated in the top 5 of every major sanctioning bodies rankings (No. 2 by the WBA, No. 2 WBO, No. 4 WBC, No. 4 WBC.) and currently holds the regional NABA & NABO titles. It would not be far fetched to believe that if makes a real statement in this match – he could be next in line for the winner of the main event, a fight which Jones says he thinks Pacquiao will win.

Welcome to the big time Mike Jones. The fight is expected do well over one million buys around the globe as well as sell out the 80,000+ seat venue. Tune in early as this fight is scheduled to be the first bout of the evening. The show will be promoted in part by Peltz Boxing along with Jones new co-promoter Top Rank.
